Since the DA is doing the whole free skins for this month I am going to try to update my journal abit more so I can use this Application as much as I can before They decide to take it away from me, and from everyone else too I guess...
Any way, lately I have been thinking about my childhood, and how it has effected me and helped to turn me into the crazy awesomeness you know and love.
I was a child of the 90's and as a child of the 90's I was raised primaryly through television. TV taught me many things like how to count, the ABCs, the difference between right and wrong, the colors, and of course great literature. My nanny was PBS and I never really did like to take naps. So when I was little and my mom put me down for a nap I would sneak out of my room and watch the mid-day television on PBS. I was raised on documentaries...
I have also been thinking about my childhood heroes as well. I have/had 2 technically 3 but 2 of them are to same person.
1. Steve Irwin (the Crocodile Hunter) : I loved Steve Irwin, still do, I thought he was like the coolest person ever. He was one of the coolest people ever! He was cool, crazy, and he LOVED animals! I was really sad when he died a few years ago. I had been taking Zoology at the time and when my teacher found out Steve Irwin had died he spent most of the class ranting about the stingray and just talking about how cool Steve Irwin had been. Needless to say we got almost nothing done, because something would remind him of something else and he would get off topic and start talking about Steve Irwin again.
2. Han Solo (Star Wars)- Harrison Ford: I think I was about 8 or 9 years old when my mom tried to get me to watch one of the original Star Trek movies, I got bored and didn't watch. So the next weekend she rented "Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope" and I loved it. This is the movie that turned me into the geek I am today, I is the one that started my love for the SciFi genre and I am damn proud of it! My favourite character was Han Solo, he was super cool, and had this rougeish charm about him that just screamed awesome. He was in short, a bad ass.
Shortly after introducing me to the awesome of Star Wars my mom introduced me to the Indiana Jones series...
3. Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones) - Harrison Ford: I wanted to BE him! Not actually be Indy, more like be like him and go on adventures like he did, you know. I still love Indiana Jones, and I actually have a giant "Last Crusade" poster/puzzle hanging in my room. Anyway, after seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time I decided that I wanted to be an archaeologist and find treasure and tombs and stuff in Egypt like Indy did. So I went to the public library and borrowed a ton of books on ancient Egypt, I even started to learn how to read hieroglyphics, not well and I can't remember anything know but I did. It was Indiana Jones that showed me that history could actually be cool and he was what began my love for history.
If I one day become a teacher then I will teach history to high schoolers, because history levels below the high school level are limited and teach mostly the same thing. I will show "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in class around the winter break rather than a Christmas movie or something like that, because I believe that this is a movie that EVERYONE should see at least once in their lifetime.
So my childhood heroes were Steve Irwin and Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones and Han Solo).
Who were some of your childhood icons/heroes? Why and did they help to shape you into the person you are today? If they did how?
Doesn't have to be very long, but a response to the question would be nice, I am actually really curious to find out who you idolized as a child. To all of you who do respond, Thank You, I really like it when people comment on my art and/or my journals it makes me feel like writing these things (journals and artist comments) isn't just a huge waste of time and bandwidth.
